What’s the difference? Home theaters are typically dedicated spaces, with one or more rows of seating, purpose-built cabinetry and millwork, and ample space for concealed racks of equipment, resulting in the best listening and viewing possible.
Media rooms are family or living spaces infused with audio & video capabilities, blending in or even concealed within the existing decor while still providing incredible sound and images. We can help you design either one, or both, into your new or existing home.
Projector or Flat Panel? Generally, dedicated home theaters will utilize projectors with large format screens for a cinema-like experience, and room darkening lighting and shade controls - critical to front projection viewing since ambient light will wash out any projected image. Screens can be fixed, retractable, curved, or perforated to conceal front speakers. And adding a anamorphic lens lets you enjoy films in their original widescreen format.
Media rooms usually benefit from large plasma or LCD flat panels that better serve the multipurpose use of family and living rooms. Flat panels are also much more resistant to the ambient light found in these spaces.
Get Comfortable! A big part of the home theater or media room experience is making sure you remain comfortable for long periods, whether watching movies, sports, or listening to music.
There are a wide range of seating options available, from traditional leather and suede theater seats, to more contemporary and ingenious designs that resemble sofas or loveseats, but that still retain powered reclining, footrest, cupholders, and other amenities that are essential to long term seating comfort
One system, not a bunch of components. A well integrated system is critical for long term enjoyment of your theater or media room. The complexity of such systems should be hidden, and simple and convenient touchpanel controls should be all that you need to care about.
Our home automation services (more here) will create a customized system that will let you control almost every aspect of your system with a press of one or two buttons, including dimming the lights, lowering the shades, adjusting the temperatures, turning your system on, and even reclining your seat!
